1.
Do I have to be a Catholic to attend a retreat
or
program?
No,
we welcome all people of faith to participate in our programs. In
fact, retreatants from a variety of Christian denominations
have attended and appreciated what they experienced at Monte Alverno.
However, you should know that our teaching and prayers flow from
the Roman Catholic traditions.
2.
Will I have a private room during my stay there?
Yes, you
will have a private room with a bed, chair, desk and sink. We have
a limited number of rooms with an adjoining toilet, shared with
one other retreatant. Persons needing these facilities can arrange
details with our secretary prior to their arrival.
3.
I’m concerned about keeping silence.
Is that a
common feeling among retreatants?
While some
people who come here for a silent retreat are fearful and unsure
if they can maintain the silence, most find the atmosphere to be
helpful. That’s not to say it isn’t difficult at first. But once
retreatants enter into the quiet, they enjoy it and come back for
it!
4.
What if I can’t pay the full
amount of the
retreat stipend?
Monte
Alverno’s policy is to welcome all people for a retreat or program,
regardless of their ability to pay. We ask that you offer what you
can. Those who can be more generous will do so. Those who cannot
afford the amount may want to pay in installments. No one is ever
denied a retreat because of financial concerns. Check our
listing of Suggested
Offerings.
5.
Do you offer anything regarding Bible study?
Yes, you
can find all about our program by going to our Bible
Study page.
5.
Is there a staff person I can talk to?
Yes,
our staff is available to speak with retreatants during "free" time
throughout the retreat.
6.
Is there a dress code?
Our dress code is relaxed—casual
clothing is fine.
7.
Are there grounds for walking outside?
The retreat
center has paved roads for walking; a new paved path for walking
and biking has just been installed and will be asphalted in the
Spring of 2004. In addition, the property is adjacent to two
cemeteries. Bring your walking shoes! (Check the Photo
Tour.)
8.
Is this really worth my time?
Most
retreatants leave with a better understanding of God and of their
life’s situation. But don’t just take our word for it! Read
the comments of retreatants, in their own words: Testimonials.
9.
Can I come with my spouse?
We have
several retreats for men and women, with our theme for the year.
In addition, we offer a married couples’ retreat. Two couples present
the major input for the retreat, with the staff members assisting.
Check the list of offerings for MIXED RETREATS and MARRIED COUPLES
RETREATS.
