A sacred place
of retreat, prayer, contemplation,
solitude, quiet
and reflection

Theme for Regular Preached Retreats during 2008:
"Do Not Fear to Hope: Live Life to the Full"

A retreat is time away from the routines of our life. It offers quiet space and leisure for reflection and prayer which people need to grow in relationship with God and to gain new insight into their relationships with themselves and others.

A silent preached retreat is the most frequently offered retreat, usually beginning Friday evening and ending with the noon meal on Sunday. The preached retreat consists of several presentations centered around a specific theme and focused on one's relationship with God and others. Eucharist, Morning Prayer, a healing service, reconciliation, and quiet time for reflection are included. The atmosphere of silence provides the time in which retreatants often gain insight and strength to deal with life's mysteries, challenges and struggles.

A directed retreat allows a person to meet daily with a Monte Alverno Staff member trained in the art of spiritual direction.  In addition, the retreatant is encouraged to participate in Morning and Evening Praise and the Eucharist. Through quiet moments of prayer, reflection on Scripture and sharing with the director, the person can better experience God and notice God's action and presence. Depending upon the availability of staff members, directed retreats may be arranged at a time that suits a person's schedule.

For anyone making a private retreat, Monte Alverno offers quiet and sacred space for prayer and reflection. The retreatant is invited to join the community of friars and others for Eucharist and Morning and Evening Praise.  The day is spent tending to one's own spiritual needs through praying, resting, reading, reflecting, and walking. One main meal is served, with the other two as pick-up meals. To make arrangements for a private retreat, please call Monte Alverno (920)733-8526, or email us at:
