Spiritual Direction Staff Descriptions

The staff member available for spiritual direction is as follows:
Fr. Keith Clark, OFM Cap
Sr. Marsaia Kaster, OSF
Br. Carl Schaefer, OFM CAP

We bring our own approaches and experiences of God and life to the  personal sessions.
Below, each of us describe how we journey with people in this sacred relationship.

Fr. KEITH CLARK:  I listen.  This seems to help people hear themselves.  Occasionally I have some comment or advice to offer from my own experience of trying to be open to God, or from what I have studied, or from what I have learned from listening to people for the past forty years.  Mainly I listen for statements of the person which indicate that God's Spirit is active in his or her ordinary life.  When I hear such statements,  I draw the person's attention to what the Spirit of God may be doing in his or her life.         kclark@thecapuchins.org

SR. MARSAIA KASTER, FSCC: God loves and has chosen each of us for a special friendship with Himself and for a unique role in the lives of those around us.  He wants us to have confidence in His love and in ourselves.  It takes courage for each person to get through life and to grow in the self confidence that God desires each of us to have.  As a spiritual director my role is to be there, to listen, to encourage, to notice and reflect back to another the movements of the Spirit that I perceive; to companion and pray for the person.     smarsaiak@yahoo.com

BR. CARL SCHAEFER:  I believe that God is always looking out for us.  God keeps making the first move in our direction. If we pay attention to life, we can get an intimation of what God is trying to bring to our attention.  It can be consoling, or scary, or seeming to be beyond understanding. But it can become accessible to me if I have the other hearing the same things I am saying to myself. That other is a listener, and that other can be a fellow traveler, a companion along the way. A voice of consolation, a voice of confidence and compassion in the face of scary things, a voice of understanding and perhaps wisdom.  The other can hear the nuance that comes with an experience of God, the invitation to a new direction, a celebration of what God has brought.  That is why I have a Spiritual Director.
