PRAYING
THE FRANCISCAN CROWN
Praying the Franciscan
Crown is like praying the Rosary. But it has
seven decades celebrating the seven joys of Mary.
This devotional practice orginated within the Franciscan tradition
and dates back to 1422.
At left are pictures of the mysteries contemplated
in praying the Franciscan Crown. They are from wood-in-lay
representations created by Fr. Bartholomew Kestell, Capuchin, and
are now displayed at Monte Alverno Retreat Center.
